A driver, whom police stopped for a suspended license, now faces several serious drug charges.
Shortly after 3 p.m. yesterday, officers with the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit stopped a vehicle on Algonquin Avenue with information that the male driver’s licence was suspended.
Following an investigation, police arrested and charged:
Wayne Thomas Kenneth Dawson, age 33, of North Bay with:
- One count of driving while under suspension
- Two counts of possession of a schedule II substance for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime and
- One count of breach of Officer in Charge undertaking.
As a result of a search following his arrest, police seized as evidence:
- 11.4 grams of cocaine;
- 20.6 grams of marijuana;
- 90 methamphetamine tablets;
- $40 in Canadian currency; and
- drug paraphernalia.
The total street value of the drugs seized is estimated at over $2,500.
Police also seized the driver’s car as offence-related property.
Dawson was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
